The Alchemical Flame

Inspired by a ritual I’ve engaged with at my Unity church since childhood. 
 
At the top of the year, the congregation would be invited to reflect and release with a literal burning bowl. In Unity, we are taught to see ourselves as co-creators with immense power over our reality. It emerged from the New Thought Movement in the 1800s, so think science of mind, transcendentalism, magnetism, etc. We believe our thoughts are prayers and that we have a huge capacity for affirmation and denial. As you can see, I come by hypnotherapy as a practice very organically. The first major proponent of New Thought was a hypnotist, Phineas Quimby.
 
When I think of God, I do not think of an angry patriarch or a punishing force. I think of the power of the Universe that rests in us as individuals. I am being very clear about this because I start this process with a prayer. If you are not comfortable with that, I completely understand. As always, I am never trying to convert anyone. I deeply respect the sovereignty of your mind, which is why my work constantly reaffirms consent and participation. It’s sort of the whole point. 
 
There is a precision in spirituality that people are typically afraid of because it requires something loose: surrender.
 
The Universe is bigger than any one of us and yet we contain it all. It works the way we calibrate it to work. I hope this process invites you into a cleaner, clearer understanding of the present. What we are called to do at this time is to expand. Under strain like this, the impulse is usually to contract. We seek safety. The truest safety possible always exists when we allow ourselves to root deeply into the present and each other. We are truly connected.
